Maj. Gen. John R. Evans, commanding general of the U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox, is set to be the featured speaker Wednesday at a special community town hall.

The event is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. inside the Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center at John Hardin High School. The public is invited.

Evans, who took command last May, will provide an update on Fort Knox, share what is on the horizon for the installation and then entertain questions from audience members, according to a news release.

The Knox Regional Development Alliance, Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, Hardin Memorial Health, the local chapter of the Association of the United States Army, the Radcliff Small Business Alliance and the Hardin County and Meade County Area Chambers of Commerce banded together to host the event.

The Knox Regional Development Alliance CEO retired Brig. Gen. Jim Iacocca expressed his appreciation for Evans’ support and touted the installations long-standing partnership with the community.

“We look forward to co-hosting the town hall with Maj. Gen. Evans and encourage the public to attend,” said Iacocca in the release. “The key to a strong relationship between Fort Knox and its surrounding communities is an open line of communication. We look forward to learning about the important work happening on Fort Knox and what the community can do to offer even greater support.”

Iacocca said the partnership and mutual support helped the region gain national recognition as a 2018 Great American Defense Community.

“While the designation only lasts a year, our support is ongoing,” Iacocca said. “The community’s role in providing a positive quality of life for soldiers and their families cannot be understated. It is critical.”
